Mr. Johnny Kay

Lead Counselour

I am Mr. Johnny Kay and this is my thirty-first year as an educator.  After obtaining my bachelor’s degree from Abilene Christian University, I taught a variety of social studies classes at Frenship High School for six years.  I completed a master’s degree from Texas Tech University and began working as a school counselor.  I have been both an elementary and a high school counselor in West Texas and the Austin area.

This is my twelvth year in Hutto ISD.  The past two years I was a counselor at the Hutto Ninth Grade Center.  I am very excited to return to Hutto High School where I will continue to work as a school counselor.

I believe that education is the key to providing students with access to a variety of opportunities for success.  In my role as a school counselor I have the privilege of working with students to help them navigate their path through high school and beyond.  I also cherish working with parents and fellow educators to support each student.  I feel strongly that the Hutto High School is making life changing impacts in the lives of our students and that is why I am very excited to be a part of this wonderful campus.

Mrs. Angela Entrekin

Mrs. Entrekin is a professional school counselor at Hutto High School.  This will be her second year in Hutto ISD and her 23rd year in the field of education. She began her career in education as a teacher and has worked primarily at the middle school and high school levels in several districts in Central Texas.  She holds a Bachelor of Science in Human Services and a Master of Education in School Counseling.

"I look forward to continuing my work as a Hutto High School counselor this school year."

Mrs. Alexandra Payne

My name is Alexandra Payne and 2023-2024 will be my seventh year in the wonderful Hippo Nation and my second as a school counselor. I graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Science in Applied Learning and Development in 2011. I was a teacher for ten years prior to graduating with my Master of Education in Counseling & Guidance in 2022. My family lives in Hutto and my husband, Chris, and I have two daughters who are also proud Hutto Hippos.

Ms. Mika Harrell

I am Ms. Mika Harrell and this is my 19th year in education. I have a bachelor's degree in English from The University of Texas at Austin, as well as a master’s degree in school counseling from Lamar University. I was a teacher/coach for 17 years, and am currently in my second year as a counselor. I have been in Hutto ISD for 12 years. I spent the first 5 years teaching 8th grade English and coaching at Farley Middle School. I then moved to the high school to teach EOC Intervention and was the head track coach and varsity assistant volleyball coach. I am currently a counselor at Hutto High School.

Mrs. Melinda Earp

Mrs. Earp spent ten years teaching in a traditional high school English Language Arts classroom and one year at an alternative school before moving to Hipponation and firmly believes the experiences she had in each of these settings have helped her relate with students as well as teachers while serving in the counseling department. Since joining the Hippo family, she has enjoyed working with students one-on-one to address whatever needs each has brought to her attention, is grateful for the opportunity to meet many wonderful people and families in her short time here, and is looking forward to meeting and serving many more this year and in the future.

Mrs. Earp is joined by her husband, James, and they have two adult children whose post-secondary pursuits have made her the proud mom of a Fighting Texas Aggie Band member as well as one of the few women to join the electrician trade. Mrs. Earp draws on each of their experiences to help her better serve her students when discussing their futures. Her ultimate goal is to help students become confident, capable young adults ready to step boldly into their futures.
